These are photographs of various coal company operations which are no longer in existence. They include property, equipment and employees from the north-central, hard coal region of Pennsylvania. The dates of the photographs range mostly from the late teens to the early 1930's, with a couple from the 1940's. I'm not sure what the purpose of these photographs was, but all of them, with the exception of the few from the late teens, were printed on very heavy, cloth backed paper with a tab for a 3-ring binder. Many are accompanied by a piece of tissue paper with a typed description, including the company name, location, date and subject matter. The original photographs are all 8"x10" in size. I suspect they might have been for insurance purposes, but that is just a guess. If anyone knows more, please leave a comment.
