'Germ Theory' isn't spreading like it used to

"There is increasing concern that most current published research findings are false" -- John P.A. Ioannidis, MD, DSc, Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and Population Health, 'Why Most Published Research Findings Are False', 2005 (source)

Germ Theory vs Terrain Theory - Dr. Sam Bailey

My study of the alleged SARS-CoV-2 "virus" that we are told is responsible for the "pandemic", which by definition is not a pandemic, led me to an attack being waged upon what appears to be a massively flawed "germ theory" model which is responsible for the field of virology and, in turn, organizations like the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC), as well as a very large and profitable portion of the pharmaceutical industry which rakes in many billions of dollars annually due to vaccines alone, but also drugs like antibiotics.

Germ theory is called a theory because that's exactly what it is. It has apparently never been scientifically proven that a virus can, or has ever caused disease, nor that it can be transmitted from person to person, yet it is the standard model by which the entire "science" of virology is built upon and from which vaccines are derived.

Virologists isolate what they call "viruses" by starving, poisoning and adding genetic material to infected cells and as the cells break down they release byproducts as a result. Some of these byproducts are then identified as "the virus" that is making people sick. They then sell their work and from here the vaccine manufacturers take over.

The Truth About Virus Isolation - Dr. Sam Bailey

What apparently no virologist has done (or if they have, their work was not published) since roughly 1945, is a control experiment where the same procedure is performed upon healthy cell tissue to see if the results can be duplicated when the "virus" is not present, that is until 2021 when Dr. Stefan Lanka, a virologist, did exactly what every virologist should have been doing all along. What Dr. Lanka found is that exactly the same byproducts are produced by healthy cells when they are subjected to the same poisoning and starvation methodology that virologists employ. Lanka stated that he found the SARS-CoV-2 virus in these byproducts... and Ebola... and that one could isolate any other "virus" they wanted to.

Dr. Stefan Lanka 2020 Article Busts the Virus Misconception

In a previous article on the nature of the virus, I have discussed the heroic efforts of German virologist Dr. Stefan Lanka, who won a landmark case in 2017 which went all the way to the German Supreme Court. Lanka proved in the highest court of the land that measles was not caused by a virus, and that there was in fact no such thing as a measles virus.

[...]

Lanka’s main point throughout the article is this: when modern scientists are working with diseased tissue, they think the presence of a virus is causing the disease, instead of realizing that the tissue in question has been cut off and isolated from its host, then doused with antibiotics, and that this separation and poison make it diseased and kill it, rather than any virus. Lanka writes:

“All claims about viruses as pathogens are wrong and are based on easily recognizable, understandable and verifiable misinterpretations … All scientists who think they are working with viruses in laboratories are actually working with typical particles of specific dying tissues or cells which were prepared in a special way. They believe that those tissues and cells are dying because they were infected by a virus. In reality, the infected cells and tissues were dying because they were starved and poisoned as a consequence of the experiments in the lab.”

” … the death of the tissue and cells takes place in the exact same manner when no “infected” genetic material is added at all. The virologists have apparently not noticed this fact. According to … scientific logic and the rules of scientific conduct, control experiments should have been carried out. In order to confirm the newly discovered method of so-called “virus propagation” … scientists would have had to perform additional experiments, called negative control experiments, in which they would add sterile substances … to the cell culture.”

“These control experiment have never been carried out by the official “science” to this day. During the measles virus trial, I commissioned an independent laboratory to perform this control experiment and the result was that the tissues and cells die due to the laboratory conditions in the exact same way as when they come into contact with alleged “infected” material.”

FOIs reveal that health/science institutions around the world have no record of SARS-COV-2 isolation/purification, anywhere, ever

A colleague in New Zealand (Michael S.) and I (CM) have been submitting Freedom of Information requests to institutions in various countries seeking records that describe the isolation of a SARS-COV-2 virus from any unadulterated sample taken from a diseased patient.

Our requests have not been limited to records of isolation performed by the respective institution, or limited to records authored by the respective institution, rather they were open to any records describing “COVID-19 virus” (aka “SARS-COV-2”) isolation/purification performed by anyone, ever, anywhere on the planet.
Thus far (May 22, 2021) 25 Canadian institutions have provided their responses:

[...]

Every institution has failed to provide even 1 record describing the isolation aka purification of any “COVID-19 virus” directly from a patient sample that was not first adulterated with other sources of genetic material. (Those other sources are typically monkey kidney aka “Vero” cells and fetal bovine serum).

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) appears to be the most widely used "test" to diagnose the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The problem is that PCR was never designed to be used as a diagnostic tool as was clearly stated by its inventor, Kary Mullis.

PCR is used to replicate a sample of DNA or RNA and the results of the PCR procedure depend heavily upon how many times a sample is cycled and herein lies the problem: if you cycle the sample enough times, almost anyone can test positive for COVID-19, or any other "virus". At 20 or so cycles few people would test positive for COVID-19, but when you increase the number to roughly 40 or more cycles, then many people will test positive for the disease and all of a sudden you have a pandemic; a "PCR pandemic" as some doctors have called it. Remember all the hub-bub on the news about the skyrocketing number of COVID-19 cases? It's all we heard about for months. Well, low and behold, the World Health Organization (WHO) and "doctor" Anthony Fauci stated that labs were cycling their samples too many times which, according to studies, led to false positive detection rates as high as 85%. When the cycle count was lowered, so too were the number of "cases", though there were still enough to keep the "pandemic" hysteria going. This change in policy took place on the day that president Biden was inaugurated.

WHO lowers PCR cycle count, causing less positives on the day Biden becomes President

Today, the WHO, as predicted by many, lowered the cycle count threshold for a positive COVID-19 test, which will cause up to 90% less positive COVID-19 tests in the weeks and months ahead. It’s convenient that this happened on the day Biden takes office as President of the US.

The new guidance states that “the cycle threshold needed to detect virus is inversely proportional to the patient’s viral load,” insinuating that the previous guidelines cycle count thresholds detected far too much virus, causing false positives.

The New York Times studied the amount of “Coronavirus” in positive PCR tests back in August and found that in most instances, the amount of virus present is insignificant. These tests have indicated positive COVID-19 results for chicken wings, dogs, pawpaws, a goat, and zoo animals such as lions.

So what then causes outbreaks of disease?

Well, let's consider bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease) where governments ordered the slaughter of millions of cattle because of a mass outbreak of a deadly "virus". The cows had some sort of problem with regard to a parasite and governments ordered that the cows be washed (or dipped) in a pesticide to kill the parasite. The pesticide contained a powerful neurotoxin that made its way into the spinal cord and the brain and thus 'mad cow disease'. When governments quietly stopped the use of this chemical, mad cow disease largely evaporated.

Paralysis, Polio Vaccines by Weston A. Price

The following statement appeared in the Handbook of Pesticide Toxicology, 1991, edited by Wayland J. Hayes and Edward R. Laws: "It has been alleged that DDT causes or contributes to a wide variety of diseases of humans and animals not previously recognized as associated with any chemical. Such diseases included ... poliomyelitis, ... such irresponsible claims could produce great harm and, if taken seriously, even interfere with scientific search for true causes..."

Hayes and Laws were informing their readers about the heretic, Dr. Morton S. Biskind. In 1953, when Biskind’s writings were published, the United States had just endured its greatest polio epidemic. The entire public was steeped in dramatic images–a predatory poliovirus, nearly a million dead and paralyzed children, iron lungs, struggling doctors and dedicated nurses. The late president Franklin D. Roosevelt had been memorialized as a polio victim who was infected with the deadly poliovirus near the beautiful and remote island of Campobello. The media was saturated with positive images of scientific progress and the marvels of DDT to kill disease-carrying mosquitos. Jonas Salk was in the wings, preparing to be moved center stage.

Through this intellectually paralyzing atmosphere, Dr. Biskind had the composure to argue what he thought was the most obvious explanation for the polio epidemic: Central nervous system diseases (CNS) such as polio are actually the physiological and symptomatic manifestations of the ongoing government- and industry-sponsored inundation of the world’s populace with central nervous system poisons.

"In 1945, against the advice of investigators who had studied the pharmacology of the compound and found it dangerous for all forms of life, DDT (chlorophenoethane, dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane) was released in the United States and other countries for general use by the public as an insecticide...

"Since the last war there have been a number of curious changes in the incidence of certain ailments and the development of new syndromes never before observed. A most significant feature of this situation is that both man and all his domestic animals have simultaneously been affected. In man, the incidence of poliomyelitis has risen sharply...

[...]

In contemporary Britain, a farmer turned scientist, Mark Purdey, has found substantial evidence that mad cow disease, a form of polio-like encephalitis, was caused by a government mandated cattle treatment consisting of organophosphate pesticide and a compound similar to thalidomide. Unlike most scientists, Mark Purdey became legally embroiled with the government during his research, and "... was shot at, blockaded in his home to prevent him giving a lecture, and saw a new farmhouse go up in flames the day he was due to move in."

DDT has been replaced with pesticides and herbicides like glyphosate which was developed by Monsanto. Glyphosate is a carcinogen that is found virtually everywhere including in water, the food supply and breast milk. From a health perspective, glyphosate is the new DDT.

Is there a Glyphosate-COVID19 Connection? w/ Dr. Stephanie Seneff

Dr. Stephanie Seneff, Ph.D., is a Senior Research Scientist at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. She has a B.S. degree from MIT in biology and M.S., E.E., and Ph.D. degrees from MIT in electrical engineering and computer science. Dr. Seneff has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Her recent interests have focused on the role of toxic chemicals and micronutrient deficiencies in health and disease, with a special emphasis on the pervasive herbicide, Roundup, and the mineral, sulfur. Her investigations have led to a strong hypothesis that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, is the key factor in the autism epidemic and in many other neurological, metabolic, oncological and autoimmune diseases. She has authored over thirty peer-reviewed journal papers over the past few years on these topics, and has delivered numerous presentations around the world.

Let us also look at another pandemic, the Spanish Flu, which had nothing to do with Spain...

In an effort to prove that the Spanish flu could be transmitted among humans, virologists took snot and other samples from sick people and tried multiple times to infect healthy people. Another experiment involved horses. In one experiment they injected the infected material directly into the healthy people and, in the end, all three of the human experiments, as well as the horse experiment, failed to infect a single person or horse.

Spread of Spanish Flu Was Never Experimentally Confirmed

The landmark study of Milton J. Rosenau, MD, “Experiments to Determine Mode of Spread of Influenza,” was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1919.

They isolated microbial mixtures from the throat and noses of carefully selected influenza cases from an outbreak location. The researchers then administered these to 10 young U.S. navy volunteers without prior exposure to influenza. None fell sick.

They drew blood from influenza patients and transferred it to the navy volunteers. None fell sick.

They collected influenza patients’ mucous membranes with swabs and filtered them to exclude larger microbes like bacteria. They then injected the filtrate into the navy volunteers. None fell sick.

They brought the navy volunteers to meet influenza patients. They shook hands and conversed. The patients also exhaled (as hard as possible) onto the volunteers’ face for five times. Then the patients cough directly onto the volunteers. None fell sick.

The bubonic plague (Black Death) outbreak is another example...

In this case it was found that there was a high amount of volcanic activity which released toxins that poisoned the air and water and that this may have been responsible for the pandemic.

'Worst year to be alive' caused by ancient volcanic eruption that plunged world into darkness – and may have led to plague that killed 50million

An enormous volcanic eruption coughed millions of tonnes of smoke into the atmosphere in the Sixth CenturyIt blocked out the Sun, day and night, for 18 months, causing snowfall in China, continental-scale crop failure, extreme drought, famine and disease throughout most of the northern hemisphere.

Again, there is apparently no proof that viruses cause disease. Disease seems to be caused primarily by toxins (AIDS is a great example where drug use plays a huge role), poor life choices and a lack of proper nutrition and sanitation, any of which can certainly affect specific races, or populations in a given geographic area, or the world at large, and thus we have pandemics which are then attributed to "viruses". There is also a scientifically proven mental component where, if a person thinks they're going to sick, they very well may. You could think of this phenomena as placebo effect, except in reverse.

Have you ever wondered how it is that doctors and nurses and other healthcare professionals can spend their working life in close proximity to diseased people without getting sick themselves?

Dr. Tom Cowan wrote a very interesting book titled, The Contagion Myth - Why Viruses (including "Coronavirus") Are Not the Cause of Disease. I highly recommend this book, which is available for free from the Internet Archive (here is a direct link to the PDF version). Following is an excerpt regarding how viruses are supposed to be isolated according to Rivers' postulates (a modified version of Koch's postulates) and how virologists "isolated" the alleged SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses:

Let’s look then at what was done to prove that the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was the cause of this new set of symptoms. Four papers published in China are cited as proof that the new and novel coronavirus is the probable cause of this new disease. For an in-depth analysis of these papers, please refer to a presentation by Andrew Kaufman MD, in which he dissects in great detail the methods and conclusions of these seminal studies.

To review these four studies, let’s look again at Rivers’ postulates for determining whether a particular virus causes a disease.

  1. The virus can be isolated from diseased hosts.
  2. The virus can be cultivated in host cells.
  3. Proof of filterability—the virus can be filtered from a medium that also contained bacteria.
  4. The filtered virus will produce a comparable disease when the cultivated virus is used to infect experimental animals.
  5. The virus can be re-isolated from the infected experimental animal.
  6. A specific immune response to the virus can be detected.

None of these four studies met all six postulates. Of the four studies said to prove that a coronavirus causes this disease, not one of them satisfied the first three postulates, and none of them even addressed postulates four and five. One paper claimed to find an immune response (postulate six) by looking at antibody levels from the patient.

The first two papers are honest enough to claim only an association of coronavirus and the disease; the third paper claims that the coronavirus is “identified as the causative agent.” The fourth paper, from McMaster University, falsely claims that the coronavirus is the causative agent of the disease and that the virus “set in motion the pandemic,” with no evidence to back up these statements.

These papers never show that all the people with Covid-19 had the same set of symptoms; they never purify any virus from the sick people; they never demonstrate the absence of the virus from well people; and they never show that the transmission of purified virus could make well people become sick. This is scientific fraud of the first order.

It’s interesting to look more closely at how virologists work to "prove" something like causation by coronavirus. One example is a paper published in 2003 in Nature, titled "Koch’s Postulates Fulfilled for SARS Virus." Researchers claimed that Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome is caused by a coronavirus. The title itself is misleading, if not dishonest, because the researchers satisfied neither Koch’s nor Rivers’ postulates.

Here’s what they did: first they took respiratory secretions from some sick people; in other words, they took sputum from people with a cough. They centrifuged the sputum, which separates the cellular part (where presumably the virus is residing in the cells) from the liquid part. They discarded the liquid part. This is what they referred to as "purification." Then they took this centrifuged, unpurified sediment from sick people, containing God-only-knows-what, and inoculated that into vero (monkey kidney) cells. Here we have to understand that if virologists want to get enough "virus" to use experimentally, they must grow it in a biological medium such as an animal or at least cells from an animal. Unlike bacteria, which can be grown in petri dishes, viruses are not alive, and they can "grow" only in other living cells. For convenience and because cancer cell lines are "immortal," they generally grow their "viruses" in cancer cells; however, in this case they used kidney cells. This practice is fraught with obvious problems for proving it is the virus and not the kidney or cancer cells that are causing disease when these viruses then get injected into the test animals. Also, it is well known now that as part of their "detoxification" strategy, cells, especially cancer cells produce particles called exosomes, which are identical to "viruses." (More on this in chapter 6.)

Again, the researchers took unpurified sediment from the nasal mucus of sick people and grew that in vero cells until they got a sufficient quantity of cellular material to work with. Then they centrifuged this mess again, not even attempting to purify any virus from the mixture. Finally, they took this witch’s brew of snot sediment, kidney cells, and who-knows-what-else and injected that into two monkeys. They didn’t do a control group by injecting saline into other monkeys or injecting vero cells into monkeys, or even injecting the liquid supernatant from the centrifuged material into monkeys. They just injected this cellular- debris-laden goop. One monkey developed pneumonia and the other appeared to have respiratory symptoms possibly related to a lower respiratory disease. That, claim the researchers, is the proof that a "coronavirus" can cause disease.

To be fair, in a related study, researchers did the exact same procedure, except to make it more reflective of how the new "virus" actually spreads, they took unpurified, lung-cancer-grown, centrifuged snot and (again, without any controls) squirted it down the throats and into the lungs of hamsters. (Where is PETA when you need them?) Some, but not all, of the hamsters got pneumonia, and some died. We have no idea what would have happened if they had squirted plain lung cancer cells into the lungs of these hamsters, but probably not anything good. And even more perplexing, some of the hamsters didn’t even get sick at all, which certainly doesn’t square with the deadly, contagious virus theory.

In short, no study has proven that coronavirus, or indeed any virus is contagious, nor has any study proven anything except that virologists are a dangerous, misguided group of people and that hamster- and monkey-rights people are not doing their jobs!

From the article, Gaslighting: The Truth About 'Gain of Function', we read:

Much has been made of the “Wuhan Lab Leak” theory and the notorious ‘gain of function’ talking point in recent months, as Americans and other people in the west look desperately for any scapegoat to pin the blame on for the alleged ‘global pandemic’ which has befallen the world over the last 15 months. They want someone external to blame – anyone but their own naive selves and their corrupt government-media-pharma complex.

In the alternative media, much of the early hype was generated by various ‘whistleblowers’ who used the spectre of ‘gain of function’ in order to confer a certain mystique and incredible superpowers to the ‘novel’ coronavirus, and when added to a narrative featuring Dr Fauci and the Wuhan Institute of Virology – it had all the makings of a Hollywood blockbuster.

However, upon closer inspection, the hype surrounding this seemingly gargantuan field of research does not live up to the reality of what appears to be a rather unremarkable area of research. While strides have been made in bacteria ‘gain of function’ research, very little if any actual progress has been made in the virus department.

In this video presentation, New Zealand’s Dr Sam Bailey dispels some of the popular myths surrounding ‘gain of function’ research, and shows why this popular conspiracy theory is actually being used to further advance the increasingly overblown ‘global pandemic’ narrative which is still being used by governments to terrorise and lockdown their populations and bleed economies dry. !!! GLOBAL WARMING !!! GLOBAL WARMING !!! GLOBAL WARMING !!!

"There is No Climate Catastrophe – It’s a Lie." -- Dr. Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace (source)

Video: We Need to Eat the Babies!’ Satirical Climate Activist Confronts AOC at New York Town Hall

Man-made global warming; fact, fiction, or something in between? Courtesy of a 2013 post, 10 Climate Myths Debunked (in 60 seconds!), by James Corbett of The Corbett Report:

Myth #1. The earth is warming!

On what time scale? 16 years? 2000 years? 10000 years? 420000 years? 65 million years? (Answer: None of the above)

Myth #2. This year was the hottest year ever!

Was that before or after NASA and the NOAA altered the temperature record to make recent years warmer?

Myth #3. 97% of scientists agree on global warming!

You mean 97% of 77 scientists in an unscientific online poll?

Myth #4. Sea levels are rising!

Yes…at a rate of 7 inches per century.

Myth #5. Hurricanes are increasing!

US landfalling hurricanes are at their lowest intensity in a century. (Bonus fact: Accumulated Cyclone Energy is at a 30 year low!)

Myth #6. But…polar bears!

The polar bear population has quintupled in six decades and the USGS admits their numbers are near “historic highs.”

Myth #7. Climategate was hype and it’s been debunked.

The UK Information Commissioner found the climategate scientists guilty of breaking the law by hiding data from the public.

Myth #8. Models project a temperature increase of over 2 degrees in this century.

And these same models overestimated warming over the past 15 years by 400%.

Myth #9. Weather is not climate.

Actually, yes. And this is true when it’s hot outside, too.

Myth #10. Climate denial is a well-funded conspiracy.

Actually, the reverse. The global warming industry has generated over $140 billion in government grants, a $315 billion carbon market and is expected to generate 10s of trillions more in government-sponsored investment in the coming decades.

Global warming is a pristine example of the 'problem-reaction-solution' (Hegelian dialectic) tactic that is rolled out again and again by governments and the deep state in order to keep the populaces in check and pliable. In this scenario a problem is presented to the public, either real or contrived, for which a solution has already been developed. At the foundation of the problem-solution scenario is an agenda which is concealed from the public and which, on its own merits, is unlikely to be accepted by the public since it often involves interventionist foreign policy, the erosion of civil liberties, the expansion of surveillance and the police state, and/or the continued enrichment of extremely wealthy people. The public reaction to the proposed problem, which has been anticipated, will naturally be to demand that their government take immediate action which in turn allows the real agenda to be carried out.

I recently had a chat with a friend of mine about man-made global warming and his views were quite mainstream and predictable. Not only did he suggest that human induced global warming is a sound and scientifically proven threat that must be addressed immediately, he went so far as to suggest that it was acceptable for authorities to misrepresent the perceived problem as long as it is solved in the end. Disturbingly, such views are not uncommon.

While i appreciate the passion of environmental activists, such views are topical and dangerous. First of all, government isn't the business of solving problems -- quite the opposite -- and secondly, in the case of human impact upon our environment, many of the real problems are not being seriously addressed. The public at large often isn't aware of the real problems because the media doesn't discuss them and most people don't bother to do any serious independent research. Even the most basic questions go unasked. The public's comprehension of whatever problem is at hand is derived from what they are fed by their government and their mouthpiece, the mainstream media. The big tech companies further feed the group-think mentality through their heavily censored and politicized social media platforms. Even a significant portion of the alternative media has fallen victim to the group-think mentality.

The formerly trendy terminology, "global warming", has been swapped out by most of the media in favor of the more arbitrary "climate change", which of course is all the climate has ever done and will ever do. How many people have questioned why the terminology was changed?

Video: The Great Global Warming Swindle – Full Documentary HD

The earths climate has not warmed as the alarmists have predicted. This lack of warming was evidenced at least as far back as 2009 when a massive amount of data was leaked to the public from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) (the reader should note the "governmental" component of the name). Phil Jones, former director of the IPCC, was "disappointed" by the apparent lack of warming. Jones, former Professor at the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, went so far as to hide data from the public which may have led to the 'Climategate' and email leak fiasco which seriously jeopardized the credibility of the IPCC, as it should have. In an email dated 16-Nov-1999 Jones wrote the following:

I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to
each series for the last 20 years (i.e. from 1981 onwards) and from 1961
for Keith's to hide the decline.

He was of course referring to the decline in the earths temperature. Does this kind of behavior sound like that of a scientist? Phil Jones stepped down from his position while an inquiry took place.

The University of East Anglia broke the law when dealing with requests for climate data, according to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

A statement from the office says emails leaked or stolen from the university's Climatic Research Unit reveal that Freedom of Information requests "were not dealt with as they should have been under the legislation".

The vast amount of CO2 in our environment is produced by rotting organic matter and our oceans. What we humans produce is trivial and most creditable climate scientists seem to agree that the tiny amount of CO2 produced by humans is not and cannot affect global temperature to any appreciable degree. Furthermore, when one looks at the historical data, it is apparent that temperature increase precedes the increase of CO2 which, in and of itself, presents a significant problem for the warming alarmists whose genesis was built upon precisely the opposite being true.

"The only place in the world where a CO2 increase causes a temperature increase... the only place in the world where that happens is in the IPCC computer models." -- Dr. Timothy F. Ball, Ph.D., in his interview with James Corbett, 15-Dec-2014.

One of the primary drivers of the earths temperature is our star. The distance from the earth to its sun is not static, nor is its solar activity, and this has a significant impact upon the temperature here on earth.

Solar activity relative to temperature
From the 'Summary of Peer-Reviewed Research', Global Warming Petition Project

If you move an object closer or further from a heat source, does it's temperature not change, just as it has been changing on the moon? Oh, i'm so sorry, i forgot; the change in the temperature of the moon resulted from us walking on it. Yes, one explanation fed to the public is that footprints and rover tracks have caused a temperature increase on the moon. I wonder what it is we humans did in order to affect climate change on Mars and Jupiter as well?

It is the Club of Rome and the Rockefellers who founded and finance the "grassroots" climate change movement. The Club of Rome, founded in 1968 at Rockefeller's estate in Ballagio, Italy, is a hugely important and influential body. The Club is consulted by various governments and it pushes agendas that affect the entire world, yet the public knows little or nothing about it.

Following are a few excerpts from an issue of the Executive Intelligence Review (EIR), 23-Jun-1981, titled 'The inside story of the Club of Rome' by Nancy Spannaus:

In his speech before 120 diplomats and government officials in Washington, D.C. this last week, EIR founder Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr. identified the major policymaking institutions of the advanced sector as the real problem leading the world toward World War III. No one could exemplify this judgement more clearly than Alexander King, cofounder of the Club of Rome, as he described the origins and workings of that institution to EIR in Paris last month.

King's Club of Rome is not a power in its own right. Many in the United States and developing sector would hardly recognize its name. Yet the institutional connections of this elite group, which began with a mere four individuals in 1968, make it one of the central coordinating bodies for the worldwide depopulation policy which ranges from mass sterilizations, to right- and left-wing terrorism, to fomenting of Salvador-like civil wars. It is the policies formulated in the Club of Rome, on behalf of the "black noble" families of Venice and Great Britain, which are then transmitted through leading institutions such as NATO, the OECD, and governments of nations like Canada.

[...]

Gradually the policy profile becomes clearer. "Many of us felt that the nation-states of especially Western Europe were not looking at the long term, but were bound up with short-term electoral cycles, and far too traditional." The meaning of that is directly linked to the views of the Council on Foreign Relations, whose member Lloyd Cutler, then personal counsel to President Carter, wrote an article on future governments last year. Governments will increasingly be absorbed with the business of managing scarcity, Cutler said, and therefore must be cut off from the demands of the constituencies.

[...]

King is interested in promoting zero growth through the rubric of the "technetronic society," as envisioned by such madmen as Zbigniew Brzezinski and the late H. G. Wells. How does this cohere with the so-called concern for the "humanization" of science reflected in the educational reforms and King's discussion of the policy review by the Nobel Foundation in 1968? Merely that an increasingly small group of technocrats will run the increasingly smaller core of industry, manipulate the overall population through the "information" society, and leave the bulk of the world's population without access to the tool of technological development.

[...]

King's description provides the reader with a remarkably clear image of how the Club of Rome functions to shape the policy directions of leading institutions. The Club of Rome is not at all interested in wielding power as such-that makes it too direct a target of opposition. It prefers to act "as a catalyst," leaving the appearance that the student rebellions, destabilizations, and economic retrenchment programs it is fostering are "just popping up spontaneously."

[...]

The so-called academic institutions are quite revealing. Key among them are IFIAS, the International Federation of Institutes of Advanced Studies, and IIA SA, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis. These groupings, both technically oriented, are key penetrators of explicitly anti-Club of Rome governments and institutions, including especially the Soviet Union. Acting as impartial experts, their members are ruining dozens of nations, controlling international institutions like the United Nations, IMF, and World Bank, and perverting the best of scientific minds looking for a solution to underdevelopment.

As you may recall, former U.S. president Ronald Regan stated several times during his presidency how the people of the world might unite if we were faced with an alien threat. The capacity to manufacture alluring enemies seems to be in the DNA of the Club of Rome.

"Humans only truly unite when faced with a powerful external enemy" -- The Club of Rome, The First Global Revolution (1991, ISBN067171094X). From page 85 of the same book we find the following:

The common enemy as proposed by the Club of RomeIn searching for a new enemy to unite us, we suggested that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. In their totality and in their interactions, these phenomena constitute a common threat which demands the solidarity of all peoples. But in designating them as the enemy, we fall into the trap about which we have already warned, namely mistaking symptoms for causes. All these dangers are caused by human intervention and it is only through changed attitudes and behaviour that they can be overcome. The real enemy is humanity itself.

For more information about the Club of Rome, the modern environmental movement, and who is behind it, i suggest reading EIR Special Report: ‘CO₂ Reduction’ Is a Mass Murder Policy. From the introduction:

Read this report to learn the dark story of the modern environmentalist movement. Come to understand why the world’s greatest financial powers are eagerly supporting climate hysteria. Encounter data refuting the supposed certainty of a world cataclysm facing us in a dozen years, and gain a fuller appreciation of the complexity of the Earth’s climate, in the context of the mechanisms of the solar system and beyond.

And from the section titled Frontal Assault on Our Living Standard: Multibillionaires Are Financing the ‘Climate Protectors’!:

A closer look at the financing of Greta Thunberg, the Extinction Rebellion (XR) and Fridays for Future reveals that this movement is being funded by the richest people on Earth. Among the founders and periphery of the Climate Emergency Fund (CEF), are to be found Rory Kennedy, the daughter of Robert Kennedy; Aileen Getty, daughter of the late John Paul Getty; and the “philanthropist” Trevor Neilson, whose career has included various forms of collaboration with Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, George Soros and Ted Turner. According to the Guardian, the CEF has already transferred 500,000 euros to XR, which will soon be followed by “ten times as much” money. Breitbart has published internal documents from XR, revealing further five- and six-figure donations by Soros, the European Climate Foundation, the Tides Foundation, and Greenpeace Furka Holdings AG, among others.

Article: Peer-Reviewed Study Confirms Antarctica Hasn't Warmed In Past 70 Years | Climate Change Dispatch

Cancel all the claims by climate activists that global warming is decimating Antarctica.

A peer-reviewed study recently published in one of the most prominent science journals destroys one of the most frequently asserted claims by climate activists – that climate change is warming Antarctica and melting the Antarctic ice sheet.

This recent study confirms Antarctica has not warmed in the past 70 years and Antarctic ice cover is expanding rather than shrinking.

Writing in the journal Nature, scientists at Columbia University and the University of Victoria, British Columbia report, "The Antarctic continent has not warmed in the last seven decades, despite a monotonic increase in the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases."

The scientists also observe that over the past several decades, "Antarctic sea ice area has modestly expanded."

The scientists report that the topography of Antarctica, and particularly the size and distribution of Antarctic mountain ranges, play a large role in Antarctica's stable (actually modestly cooling) environment.

The scientists published the image below, which shows how temperatures have changed during the past 30 years, compared to temperatures recorded between 1950 and 1980.
Clearly, the vast majority of Antarctica is cooling, with warming occurring over just a small portion of the continent that juts out into the Southern Ocean.

Article and video: Tony Heller on the insanity of global warming alarmism - Jerm Warfare

Tony Heller is a scientist and software engineer, and runs RealClimateScience.com, in which he analyses climate change claims and debunks propaganda and alarmism using historical data and trends.

I’ve spoken to a few great minds, such as solar physicist Valentina Zharkova and Greenpeace cofounder Patrick Moore, and the reality is that, as Tony reiterates,

  • humans do not influence Earth’s climate in any meaningful way;
  • climate change has occurred for millennia;
  • there is no evidence of significant sea-level rise;
  • extreme weather has not been all that extreme over the last century;
  • the Arctic and Antarctic are doing fine; and
  • the climate change narrative has nothing to do with climate change, and everything to do with fear and control and taxation.

Regarding the Rockefellers, the following quotes are from the Executive Summary of a report titled The Rockefeller Way which was prepared by The Energy & Environmental Legal Institute in 2016:

The Rockefellers are arguably the wealthiest and most powerful family in the history of the United States. For more than 100 years, they have shaped and directed America’s economic, financial, political, and public policy while simultaneously amassing one of the largest family empires in the modern era.

Most Americans hold the billionaire philanthropists in high esteem, associating the Rockefeller name with “oil” and “capitalism.” In reality, the Rockefellers are intent on controlling nearly every major institution in America, using philanthropy as a means of increasing their influence on the world stage under the guise of advancing various social causes.

[...]

Through the Rockefellers’ web of family foundations, universities, and institutions, as well as huge grants to other charities, they have gained unprecedented influence in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, energy, and the environment.

[...]

As the most prolific benefactors of the climate activist movement, the Rockefellers’ impact on the energy industry sees no bounds, as the family’s objectives permeate throughout federal and state energy policy, as well as international social engineering globalist compacts such as Agenda 21. With the immeasurable influence that accompanies mass wealth and power, the Rockefeller empire has proven an effective puppeteer of advancing its main objective: the destruction of the fossil fuel industry to increase its clout over the energy sector.

To understand why the Rockefellers, who founded Standard Oil, would divest from the fossil fuel industry, i highly suggest watching the documentaries, How & Why Big Oil Conquered The World by James Corbett.

Video: How Big Oil Conquered The World

Video: Why Big Oil Conquered The World

There is an excellent paper titled Report From Iron Mountain which i suggest reading. While its authenticity is debatable, like The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, whether it is a fiction or not is irrelevant since it presents a disturbingly accurate picture of the world we live in today and why governments, economies and societies are operated as they are.

The primary purpose of the report was to answer the question of what would happen in the absence of war. The answer included the statement that a states ability to rule over its people is directly proportionate to its war-making capability. How many of those in power do you think are willing to give up that power? Do we not have a war economy?

The "man-made global warming" nonsense was fabricated as a distraction for the masses. Those with deficient analytical abilities will never see the Big Picture which includes Agenda 21, Codex Alimentarius, the United Nations, the World Health Organization, globalization, smart cities, technocracy, trans-humanism, eugenics, and think tanks like the Club of Rome and people like Bill Gates, George Soros and the Rockefellers. When you hear world leaders talking about a "New World Order", who do you think the beneficiaries will be?

Video: UN Agenda 21 Exposed - Rosa Koire

Video: Carbon Eugenics

The solutions to the problems the world is facing, whether manufactured or genuine, are foisted upon the public under the guise of impending doom, or as an improvement in the convenience in their lives. The true reasons however are so diametrically opposed to the propaganda that they can hardly be imagined by the masses, or are dismissed out of hand as "conspiracy theories" regardless of the fact that institutions like the Club of Rome publish their motives in black and white for all to see should they care to look.

Is starvation, disease and the lack of basic resources in third world countries not solvable in a matter of a few months or years? Do we not already posses the technology to virtually eliminate our use of fossil fuels in a way the benefits the human family instead of a few elitists? Do you think it's an accident that the quality of the education system in the U.S. ranks near the lowest among developed nations? Why is life expectancy falling in the U.S.? These questions have very clear answers but those answers are not shared with the public by governments or their mouthpieces in the mainstream media. Even the majority of the alternative media gets it wrong.

Instead of addressing the welfare of the planet and realizing the potential of the human species, governments happily spend billions and trillions on war and environmentally destructive industry as dictated by their masters, collectively known as the deep state.

If governments or the hypnotized masses wanted to address a real and pressing environmental threat, they might focus instead upon the environmental impact of manufactured wars financed by the international banking cartel or radiation produced from nuclear bomb testing or catastrophic disasters resulting from nuclear power plants like Fukushima and Chernobyl. Why doesn't the media report in depth about the ongoing disaster at the Daiichi nuclear power plant and the millions of gallons of radioactive water that's been dumped in the ocean since the accident? Why aren't these topics trending on Facebook instead of useless memes like "storm Area 51"?

From an article by Professor Michel Chossudovsky titled, Global Warming and the Ozone Layer: What’s More Dangerous, CO2 or Nuclear War?:

The Impact of Radioactivity on Climate

Are increased CO2 emissions from fossil fuel the only cause of climate change and environmental degradation?

In this article, we focus briefly on the impacts on the Ozone Layer resulting from the explosion of nuclear bombs, an issue which has not been addressed by the New Green Deal, as well as radiation from nuclear power plants.

Radiation from Nuclear Power Plants (Fukushima)

The dumping of highly radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean constitutes a potential trigger to a process of global radioactive contamination.

In this regard, since 2011, amply documented, marine life as well as species loss has been affected by the release of radioactive plutonium into the Pacific Ocean following the Fukushima-Daichi disaster.

Radioactive elements have not only been detected in the food chain in Japan, radioactive rain water has been recorded in California.

Nuclear Testing and Radioactive Fallout

The testing of nuclear weapons has been ongoing throughout the post WWII era. Among the more than 2000 tests, a large number of these tests are “not underground” or “underwater”, i.e the testing in the atmosphere.

[...]

The nitric oxides produced by the weapons could reduce the ozone levels in the Northern Hemisphere by as much as 30 to 70 percent. Such a depletion might produce changes in the Earth’s climate, and would allow more ultraviolet radiation from the sun through the atmosphere to the surface of the Earth, where it could produce dangerous burns and a variety of potentially dangerous ecological effects.

It has been estimated that as much as 5,000 tons of nitric oxide is produced for each megaton of nuclear explosive power. [...]

The 2008 Simulation of Nuclear Conflict. Impacts on Ozone Layer

In a major 2008 study by Michael Mills et al entitled Massive global ozone loss predicted following regional nuclear conflict (Academy of Sciences of the United States) a simulation was conducted (largely based on the concepts outlined in the TTPS 1983 study) of a nuclear conflict involving 100 Hiroshima sized bombs. The simulation confirmed that the nuclear explosions “could produce long-term damage to the ozone layer, enabling higher than “extreme” levels of ultraviolet radiation to reach the Earth’s surface, (see GSN, March 16, 2010).

[...]

Those concerns have largely been excluded from the Climate Debate and the Extinction Rebellion.

The Extinction Rebellion Protest Movement has its eyes riveted on the rising emissions of Carbon Dioxide (from fossil fuel), heralded as “the most dangerous and prevalent greenhouse gas”.

All other variables are excluded. Scientific lies by omission.

Children are being exploited and turned into unwitting political whores for the uneducated masses to dote over while the Big Picture remains well outside the narrow field of view projected by our televisions and radios and governments and corporate controlled social media platforms.

Pedophrasty: "Argument involving children to prop up a rationalization and make the opponent look like an asshole, as people are defenseless and suspend all skepticism in front of suffering children: nobody has the heart to question the authenticity or source of the reporting. Often done with the aid of pictures."

Video: Top 10 Reasons Why Greta Thunberg Is a Fraud - Red Ice TV

Video: Greta "i see carbon dioxide" Thunberg without a script: stumped when asked what her message is

From an article on Vigilant Citizen, The Elite Machine Behind Greta Thunberg:

In the matter of a few months, Greta Thunberg went from a lone girl protesting in front of the Swedish parliament to an international phenomenon. Although mass media is making it seem as if this meteoric rise to prominence happened organically, this is simply not true.

Behind Greta is a major machine, one that is controlled by major international actors and backed by major funds. This PR machine has allowed Greta to make the covers of magazines, become the subject of thousands of news articles while meeting with world leaders and giving speeches at elite places such as the United Nations.

[...]

In short, Greta is the face of a major marketing scheme – a tightly coordinated international effort to sell global warming under a specific lense: Through fear, panic, and urgency.

The perfect timing between Greta’s strike and the book release was not a coincidence. And Greta’s strike certainly did not go unnoticed.

On the very same day of the first strike, a picture of Greta was published on the Facebook page of We Don’t Have Time, a “social network for climate change”. The page is managed by Ingmar Rentzhog – a specialist in financial marketing.

Rentzhog is also a chairman of the Global Utmaning Board, a think tank that “promotes sustainable development within social, economic and environmental dimensions”. The Global Utmaning Board was founded by the Swedish politician and economist Kristina Persson, who is the daughter of the billionaire politician and entrepreneur Sven O. Persson.

Backed by this machine, Greta’s story garnered intense and immediate media attention in Sweden and, soon after, around the world. After a few months of weekly strikes, Greta took a year off from school to focus solely on climate change and began a tour of European cities.

During these events, a woman was often spotted “advising” Greta: Luisa-Marie Neubauer.

Neubauer is a member of ONE Campaign, an organization managed by Bill Gates and Bono, which is heavily funded by George Soros’ Open Society Foundation.

Through these powerful connections, Greta skyrocketed on the world stage. She gave speeches at Ted X talks, the European Parliament, the United Nations and she was even nominated for a Nobel Prize. She also met world leaders and celebrities across the world, including the Pope.

[...]

Although Greta might be genuinely concerned about climate change, those behind her have a much darker agenda: To create a generation of children riddled with anxiety and depression, giving the elite carte blanche for drastic measures, ranging from tax hikes to loss of personal liberty. And let’s not forget the main goal of it all (which is also the main goal of the elite organizations behind Greta): The creation of a single world government, ruled by the world elite.

From an article on the Collective Evolution website, Greta Thunberg Wants You To Be Scared & Big Business Will Make a Killing off It:

In the 1980s, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund became the sole authority of the global warming agenda. The fund boasts of being one of the first major global activists by citing its strong advocacy for both the 1988 formation of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the 1992 creation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

“The global elite have always benefited in some way shape or form from crises, we’ve seen it over and over again with war.

"What is important, however, is to acknowledge the role of the Rockefeller family –which historically was the architect of “Big Oil”– in supporting the Climate Change debate as well as the funding of scientists, environmentalists and NGOs involved in grassroots activism against “Big Oil” and the fossil fuel industry.

"Debate on the world’s climate is of crucial importance. But who controls that debate?

"There is an obvious contradictory relationship: Whereas “Big Oil” is the target of Global Warming activism, “Big Oil” through the Rockefeller Family and Rockefeller Brothers Trusts generously finance the Worldwide climate protest movement. Ask yourself Why?” – Michel Chossudovsky, Canadian economist and Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Ottawa

Exploiting uneducated, indoctrinated and, in the case of 16 year old Greta Thunberg, a mentally ill, co-opted actress born into a family of actors and actresses, is not only patently unethical, it is pure psychological warfare designed specifically to tug on the heart strings of the gullible masses and politicians who, even if bright enough to question such lunacy, are not going to be the ones opening themselves up to attack by challenging the claims of a passionate child. It is child abuse. This kind of deceitful and despicable propaganda utilizes animals to the same effect.

Video: Won't Someone Think of the Polar Bears?!? - Corbett Report

There are 31,000+ actual scientists with backgrounds and/or interests in climatology that have signed the following petition on the Global Warming Petition Project website. Why are they ignored?

We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

I would encourage readers to review the Summary of Peer-Reviewed Research on the Global Warming Petition Project website.

More recently, 500 scientists have written to the UN to tell the body that "there is no climate emergency".

A global network of 500 scientists and professionals has prepared this urgent message. Climate science should be less political, while climate policies should be more scientific. Scientists should openly address the uncertainties and exaggerations in their predictions of global warming, while politicians should dispassionately count the real benefits as well as the imagined costs of adaptation to global warming, and the real costs as well as the imagined benefits of mitigation.

If you want to understand why the data that the IPCC and other corporate and government funded institutions uses is heavily biased and outright wrong, visit the Real Climate Science and The Corbett Report websites.

In the following video, Tony Heller of Real Climate Science breaks down how climate data has been manipulated in order to fit a predetermined result.

Video: Data Tampering Complete : Mission Accomplished!

The latest version of NOAA's Global Historical Climatology Network, is the crowning achievement of a decades long effort to rewrite Earth's history and hide the heat of the past.

"Man-made global warming" is a huge cash cow for the people pushing it. From the article, Al Gore Made Nearly $200 Million from the Global Warming Scam -- Likely to Become the World's First 'Carbon Billionaire':

Ten years after the release of Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth, none of the film's dire climate change predictions have come to pass.

However, in the decade since the documentary was produced, its creator has raked in millions of dollars from the entire "global warming" scam, and is now poised to become "our first carbon billionaire."

In the 2006 film, Gore made a number of wild claims regarding what we could expect to see happening over the next few years due to global warming, but virtually all of his alarmist prognostications have turned out to be false.

[...]

"Gore's wealth went from $700,000 in 2000 to an estimated net worth of $172.5 million by 2015 thanks to his environmentalist activism. Gore and the former chief of Goldman Sachs Asset Management made nearly $218 million in profits between 2008 and 2011 from a carbon trading company they co-founded. By 2008, Gore was able to put a whopping $35 million into hedge funds and other investments."

Yes, we are facing serious environmental problems and yes, these problems must be addressed sooner rather than later, but the think tanks and governments and billionaires that are founding, funding and pushing many of the the "solutions" are not serious people and are not interested in solving them. They have other plans. As George Carlin said, "It's a big club and you ain't in it".

Video: George Carlin - The big club

"Man-made global warming" is a politicized, fictionalized and monetized side show tossed into the invisibly barred cages for the masses to debate. It keeps them occupied while the real agendas are played out unnoticed except by those few who are willing research beyond the clickbait headlines and who are endowed with an attention span which exceeds that of a goldfish.

Here are some facts few people know:

  • Humans are not causing a “sixth mass extinction”
  • The Amazon is not “the lungs of the world”
  • Climate change is not making natural disasters worse
  • Fires have declined 25 per cent around the world since 2003
  • The amount of land we use for meat — humankind’s biggest use of land — has declined by an area nearly as large as Alaska
  • The build-up of wood fuel and more houses near forests, not climate change, explain why there are more, and more dangerous, fires in Australia and California
  • Carbon emissions are declining in most rich nations and have been declining in Britain, Germany and France since the mid-1970s
  • The Netherlands became rich, not poor, while adapting to life below sea level
  • We produce 25 per cent more food than we need and food surpluses will continue to rise as the world gets hotter
  • Habitat loss and the direct killing of wild animals are bigger threats to species than climate change
  • Wood fuel is far worse for people and wildlife than fossil fuels, and
  • Preventing future pandemics requires more, not less, “industrial” agriculture.

Article: Embarrassing Predictions Haunt the Global-Warming Industry

Warnings have been issued for many decades now regarding catastrophic climate change that forecasted certain trends or occurrences that we should already have witnessed. Yet such predictions have turned out to be very, very wrong. This was certainly the case with the alarmist predictions of the 1960s and ’70s that man’s activities on Earth were causing a catastrophic cooling trend that would bring on another ice age. And it is also the case with the more recent claims about catastrophic global warming.

Are emissions from our cars, factories, and farms causing catastrophic climate change? Is there a genuine scientific consensus? Or is man-made “global warming” an overheated environmental con job being used to push for increased government regulations and a new “Green” energy agenda?

CLIMATE HUSTLE, reveals the history of climate scares including global cooling, debunks outrageous claims about temperatures, extreme weather, and the so-called “consensus;” exposes the increasingly shrill calls to “act immediately before it’s too late,” and in perhaps the film’s most important section, profiles key scientists who used to believe in climate alarm but have since converted to skepticism.

Tor versus a VPN - Which is right for you?

This article assumes you have a basic understanding of The Onion Router (Tor) and Virtual Private Networks (VPN), as well as a desire to protect your privacy on the Wild World Web.

Having chosen to not take refuge under a large, dense object for the last several decades (not that i'd blame you), you're probably aware of how fragile privacy and freedom has become in the digital age. At the network level a lot of people (including Ed) recommend The Onion Router (Tor) in order to protect ones privacy. Others prefer using a Virtual Private Network (a VPN is really more like proxy than a network) and still others recommend using both with a VPN preceding the connection to Tor. If you're wondering what i recommend, i don't; i'll leave that up to you since it's not a one-size-fits-all thing and, more importantly, i'm not qualified to make such a suggestion and neither are a lot of other people making such suggestions. What i would like to do however is point out some of the differences between the Tor and so-called VPN's as i see them because each has distinct advantages and disadvantages.

  • Using the Tor network is free, as is the Tor Browser, a privacy and security hardened version of Firefox used to connect to the Tor network. The Tor Project source code is public and the servers can be run by anyone, including bad actors, however there is debate as to how much impact a malicious operator can have.
  • Unless you run your own VPN, which which i suspect requires a god-like level of technical prowess and secured hardware to do it right, a VPN service will cost you roughly $5 to $10 per month and a lot of the companies providing service are highly unethical. As a rule of thumb, never trust a VPN provider offering their service for "free". Personally i also avoid the big names, like NordVPN. I simply don't trust large corporations, many of which have very poor track records, including Nord.
  • Tor advocates often describe Tor a "trustless", meaning that one does not have to trust the software since it's open-source, however this is misleading since no one really knows what a malicious Tor node operator can do or what exploits exist that have never been disclosed. While it is true that no VPN can be fully trusted regarding security or privacy, the same is true for the Tor network. See for example, Tor Network Compromised by Single Hacker Stealing Users' Bitcoin: Report and 'You Are Not Anonymous on Tor' - Study Shows Privacy Network Offers Superficial Anonymity. We know there is a massive amount of money to be made in malware and vendors, many of which sell exploits to governments and intelligence communities, have little or no incentive to disclose the vulnerabilities they discover. These vulnerabilities can remain secret for weeks, months, or years. Knowing this, i think it is dangerously illogical to conclude that anything is secure, including Tor.
  • Picking a bad VPN that doesn't respect your privacy is easier than getting your drone stuck in a tree, however there is only one Tor Project and one official Tor Browser and the source code for both is public and open to auditing.
  • When using the Tor network, it is strongly suggested to use the Tor Browser (a fork of Firefox) in its default configuration. Remaining anonymous on Tor depends heavily on uniformity and so, with few exceptions, you can kiss your beloved add-ons goodbye. With a VPN one has more choices as to what browser and add-ons they use, though these choices must be weighed carefully.
  • Avoiding browser fingerprinting and tracking is much easier to achieve with Tor, while preventing fingerprinting outside of Tor is quite difficult whether using a VPN or not. In both cases however, and assuming you've taken some precautions, the websites you visit will not know your physical location and they will be less able to fingerprint and track your browser. That said, nothing can protect your privacy if you log on to privacy toxic surveillance platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google, YouTube, etc., using your real identity or the same credentials you used prior to using Tor or a VPN.
  • Because of the layers of encryption that Tor employs, bandwidth limitations, the load on the nodes, etc., Tor will generally provide a slower web experience, higher latency, and a less stable connection than a good VPN. This problem is exacerbated if one adds more nodes to the Tor circuit. File sharing is discouraged with Tor and latency sensitive traffic such as gaming is out of the question. Even watching high definition videos can be problematic.
  • Tor may insulate users from a malicious operator better than a VPN, partly because a Tor circuit is composed of multiple nodes whereas a VPN usually presents a single point of attack. Though some VPN providers offer an option to route traffic through more than one node, all the nodes are controlled by the same company. One could chain multiple VPNs, but at an added cost.
  • Different people require different levels of privacy. A journalist wishing to communicate privately with a source may be better off using Tails and Tor. On the other hand, someone wanting to download copyrighted content whilst avoiding nasty-grams from their ISP, or stream high resolution videos, or game, or most other non-sensitive and bandwidth intensive activities, may be better off with a VPN.
  • With Tor it is non-trivial and ill advised to choose what exit node you want to connect to, whereas any good VPN provider will allow you to swap between any of their servers and doing is usually just a couple mouse clicks away if you use their client software. One advantage of being able to choose among servers is the ability to access content which is blocked in a particular geographical region, such as certain videos.
  • VPN client software may not be open source and may not respect your privacy even if it is, however any good VPN provider will allow connections using other methods, such as with OpenVPN or, better yet, WireGuard. Setting up a connection manually to your VPN provider will require a bit of time verses using their app, though doing so is usually fairly easy. This issue is non-existent with Tor.
  • Both Tor exit nodes and VPN nodes are subject to having their IP addresses blacklisted by governments, corporate websites, and even private website owners which results in the inability to connect to them. In the case of a VPN this is fairly rare in my personal experience, however those who shop online are more likely to have trouble with either Tor or a VPN, though the problem may be exacerbated with Tor and the Tor Browser whereas with a VPN one can easily switch servers to try and solve the problem. That said, if you're shopping on-line and giving up personal information, there's probably no point in routing the connection through Tor or a VPN and in either case it is trivial to bypass them.
  • Choosing to use Tor is more of a simple yes or no decision, while choosing to use a VPN requires research in order to locate a trustworthy provider that offers a stable service. The VPN market is exploding and so are the number of ethically retarded providers. Be careful when reading VPN "reviews" because many of them are written by the providers themselves or paid bloggers. I've had several offers from VPN providers asking me to post content here in exchange for money (i always turn them down).
  • Unless you configure your network device to route through Tor, the only traffic routed through the network when using the Tor Browser is the web traffic generated by your browser, whereas with a VPN, typically all network traffic generated by your computer is routed through your VPN. With a suitable router you also have the option to set up the VPN on the router so that anything that connects to your local network is protected. This is fairly easy to do with routers which support it, such as the Peplink Surf SOHO, the Turris Omnia or the Vikings routers, or those for which you can install custom firmware, such as OpenWRT.
  • An entire Tor network, including the entrance and exit nodes, can be run on a single machine using software such as The Shadow Simulator. This may present very serious privacy/security issues that undermine network layering if such a configuration is employed by a malicious party such an ISP, law enforcement or the intelligence community.

Because of the garbage disseminated in the mainstream media, much of the public sees Tor as being synonymous with the 'Dark Web' which many believe is nothing more than a haven for criminals. Tor can be thought of simply as a service, such as your phone company provides, and, as with any service, it can be used by bad people to do bad things or good people to do good things. For the average person wanting to protect their privacy, Tor may provide a portal to access the same websites one visits every day, but in a more private and secure way. That said, yes, there is a 'dark' web that is accessible only through software like Tor and while some of the content available in it is indeed illegal and extremely offensive, there is also a lot of quality content which is otherwise censored on the open web.

Some people believe that using Tor will attract the attention of the intelligence community and that claim is not entirely unwarranted. While it is apparently true that using encryption may raise the eyebrow of 'The Man', such criminal spying on the public by governments is certainly not limited to those using Tor. More importantly, our inherent right of free speech is under severe attack not only by governments, but by ourselves as individuals who tend to self-censor simply because of the belief that we are being watched. This is a very dangerous situation because we cannot work toward a free and transparent society if our ability to communicate is compromised.

I'm hesitant to recommend a VPN provider if you decide to go that route, however in the interest of hopefully steering you away from the plethora of garbage companies out there, and there are plenty of them, i will offer my personal insight.

I have used both NordVPN and AirVPN in the past, both of which should be avoided. The only VPN providers i would recommend at this point are those that own and secure their hardware, both physically and technologically.

NordVPN is a huge player in the VPN market, however Nord's service wasn't very good, one reason being unstable connections and another being blacklisted IP addresses. Also i find the shear size of the company, their cheap prices, rotten track record, and a recent merger to be worrying. Finally, Nord has had some extremely serious security issues. In 2018 NordVPN suffered a catastrophic hack and failed to handle the situation in an ethical manner.

NordVPN, a virtual private network provider that promises to "protect your privacy online," has confirmed it was hacked.

The admission comes following rumors that the company had been breached. It first emerged that NordVPN had an expired internal private key exposed, potentially allowing anyone to spin out their own servers imitating NordVPN.

[...]

NordVPN told TechCrunch that one of its data centers was accessed in March 2018. "One of the data centers in Finland we are renting our servers from was accessed with no authorization," said NordVPN spokesperson Laura Tyrell.

The attacker gained access to the server - which had been active for about a month - by exploiting an insecure remote management system left by the data center provider; NordVPN said it was unaware that such a system existed.

[...]

NordVPN said it found out about the breach a "few months ago," but the spokesperson said the breach was not disclosed until today because the company wanted to be "100% sure that each component within our infrastructure is secure."

A senior security researcher we spoke to who reviewed the statement and other evidence of the breach, but asked not to be named as they work for a company that requires authorization to speak to the press, called these findings "troubling."

"While this is unconfirmed and we await further forensic evidence, this is an indication of a full remote compromise of this provider's systems," the security researcher said. "That should be deeply concerning to anyone who uses or promotes these particular services."

NordVPN said "no other server on our network has been affected."

But the security researcher warned that NordVPN was ignoring the larger issue of the attacker's possible access across the network. "Your car was just stolen and taken on a joy ride and you're quibbling about which buttons were pushed on the radio?" the researcher said.

[...]

It's also believed several other VPN providers may have been breached around the same time. Similar records posted online - and seen by TechCrunch - suggest that TorGuard and VikingVPN may have also been compromised.

What Nord should have done is immediately cease service until the scope of the breach could be determined and the security hole patched instead of continuing to potentially compromise the security and privacy of all of its customers.

NordVPN, TorGuard and VikingVPN disclose security breaches

NordVPN, one of the most well-known VPN provider, had confirmed a security breach in early 2018. At fault, there's the data centre provider from Finland, where the server was hosted. The data centre provider used an insecure remote management system that NordVPN was "unaware" of. Although NordVPN seems to be playing down the occurrence, there's an anonymous post on 8chan, shared by Cryptostorm's Twitter account, that claims that the hacker had root access to the server. NordVPN states that the TLS key that was stolen was expired, and no VPN traffic could be decrypted.

The same 8chan user showed access to servers from two other VPN providers – TorGuard and VPNViking.

I have also personally found piles of user credentials on pastebin.com for NordVPN.

After i gave up on Nord i started using AzireVPN, a smaller Swedish company that focuses on the WireGuard protocol which has several distinct advantages over the older OpenVPN protocol. There are a few key reasons i switched to Azire, one being that they claim to own, secure and configure their hardware rather than lease it like virtually everyone else, Nord, Mullvad and Air included. They also claim to employ some interesting security measures to prevent tampering, including physically sealing unused ports and running everything in RAM (no hard drives).

Many speak highly of Mullvad VPN and while i have no personal experience with them, the company looks very interesting in that they support WireGuard and claim to own a portion of their own servers while the remainder are dedicated boxes. Many of their servers, whether owned or dedicated, run the OS in RAM (see their Servers page for details). Mullvad accepts cryptocurrency and doesn't require you to disclose any personal information. A comment by a reader prompted me to take a closer look at Mullvad which, for whatever reason, i incorrectly assumed rented all their servers.

Thanks also to Michael Horowitz who recommend OVPN which he wrote about in his article, VPN's and Defensive Computing. The article is well worth a read. Like Azire and Mullvad, OVPN (they do WireGuard too) also claims to own, secure and maintain their own servers which are locked in isolated racks and the OS is run in RAM. OVPN has a nice article on their Security page about all the measures they take to protect their customers.

All the hardware used to operate our service is owned by us and locked into isolated racks. All servers operate without any hard drives as the operating system only resides in the RAM memory.

Another interesting bit is that OVPN carries insurance to cover any legal fees.

Conflicts are expensive and complicated, especially when crossing country borders. We've decided to sign up for an insurance that covers legal fees as an additional layer of safety, which grants us the financial muscles to refute any requests for information.

In the case of any third party demanding information about our customers, we are fully prepared to go to court and will do everything in our power to prevent anyone from getting access to customer information.

Azire, Mullvad and OVPN are the only companies i know of thus far that take these kinds of precautions and while there is no proof for some of these claims, nothing is guaranteed elsewhere in the digital world either.

Regarding performance i have had next to zero trouble with Azire's service and latency and bandwidth has been excellent. Unlike Nord, i haven't had to switch server locations every few days because of network degradation. Lastly, Azire accepts cryptocurrency so you can purchase and use their service anonymously without having to provide any personal information. If you choose Azire, please consider using my affiliate link which gives me some free time with them.

FreePN is also another interesting player in the privacy market. This project is building a free, open-source, distributed VPN service similar to the Tor network. There are caveats with this service however, so please do your homework. Read: FreePN: Free, open-source, distributed VPN.

The Firefox Privacy Guide for Dummies!

See the revision history at the end ... if you make it that far :)

Before embarking on this journey into the bowels of Firefox, you may want to first read, Tor verses a VPN – Which is right for you?. If you choose to use the Tor Browser, you need not bother with this guide.

Introduction

The following video will provide an overview of one aspect of what it is we're up against and why i wrote the Firefox configuration guides. I encourage everyone to view it, especially if you're one of the many people who aren't worried about surveillance because you 'have nothing to hide'.

Video: Prof Shoshana Zuboff on surveillance capitalism

You're aware that unethical companies such as Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube, advertisers, your ISP and governments are spying on your activities and buying and selling the data they harvest, even if you may not be aware of how they're doing it. You're concerned about this invasion of your privacy, but you're wondering 'yeah, but what can a tech-challenged dummy like me actually DO about it wise guy???'.

Welcome to the 'dummies' edition of the Firefox Configuration Guide for Privacy Freaks and Performance Buffs!!!

The goal here is to provide a simple guide, to the extent that's possible, which will yield a privacy enhanced configuration of the Firefox web browser whilst breaking as few websites as possible. That said, be prepared to put a little more effort into your surfing activities, at least until the dust settles. The pay-off will be a much faster, cleaner, less annoying web that is less able to track and profile you. Note that i said "less", not "not".

WARNING: This guide is not intended for use with the Tor browser which is an already hardened version of Firefox. Configuring the Tor browser as outlined here would likely result in DOOM!

Catching the Fox

You want the standard release version of Mozilla Firefox, even if you think you don't. No Pale Moon, no Waterfox, no whatever, so if you don't have it, get it. If you run a GNU/Linux-based operating system (we're already in love), look in your package manager. Since it's privacy we're interested in, we're way too smart to be screwing around with Google Chrome (un-Googled or otherwise), Microsoft Edge, etc., though if you have an inferior alternative browser you could retain it as a backup.

Profiling the Fox

Start Firefox and enter about:profiles in the address bar. You can call it the "location bar" or the "awesome bar" or the "mega bar" or whatever else Mozilla is calling it these days, but i call it the address. Press your 'Enter' key to load that address and you'll see where Firefox keeps your profiles. Profiles are where most of your settings, bookmarks and other junk gets dumped.

You can have as many profiles as you want, but by default there will be just one named '[blah-blah].default'. Well, we need another, so click the 'Create a New Profile' button and name the new one 'privacy'. You can change the name later, but leave it be for now else you'll make me mad and lose your internet points.

Firefox Profile Manager - Set default profile

After creating your new privacy profile, set it as the default profile.

Pro Tip

There are many about:pages in Firefox, but not all are accessible from the various menus. To see some of those that aren't, load about:about in the address bar, but be careful what you mess with in there!

Training the Fox

If you're running Windows you've just lost 100 internet points, plus you'll need to un-hide file extensions and i might suggest keeping them un-hidden.

With Firefox up and running, load about:preferences in the address bar or click the Hamburg icon on the toolbar, then 'Settings'. Click the 'Search' menu item on the left and under where it says 'Search Bar', click 'Add search bar in toolbar'. Trust me. Reasons.

Next, go to the arkenfox/user.js GitHub repository. We need their prefsCleaner.bat (Windows) or prefsCleaner.sh (Linux) file and the updater.bat (Windows) or updater.sh (Linux) file. Now before you mess up, hear me out: One by one, click on the file names, then click the 'Raw' label, then press Ctrl+S and save the files in your Firefox 'privacy' profile folder where the prefs.js file is. Failing to heed my advice can cause the file to get messed up which will surely result in Russia nuking us. If you want to avoid those steps, here's the direct links to the files: updater.sh (Linux), updater.bat (Windows), prefsCleaner.sh (Linux), prefsCleaner.bat (Windows). Just right-click those links and then 'Save as...'. Now if you're one of those wiz kids, you may have deduced that we're going to need that user.js file too but we'll grab that baby another way in just a bit. Patience is a virtue, right?

Next, go to the 12bytes.org/Firefox-user.js-supplement page at Codeberg.org, click the user-overrides.js file, then click the 'Raw' label and press Ctrl+S to save the file in the same place as the others (here's the direct link).

You'll need a decent code editor for this next step (not Notepad!), preferably one with syntax highlighting. If you're running Wintendo (that's one of my several derogatory names for Winblows), PSPad is nice, simple and free. If you're running Linux (which sucks more than i'm letting on) you've surely got something installed already.

What you need to do now is open that user-overrides.js file in your code editor and follow the directions Very Carefully. Every single little itsy-bitsy thing you could ever possibly want to know about anything in that file, is in that file... except whatever i forgot to put in it.

Now that you've sifted through that convoluted mess (go you!), load Firefox's about:profiles page again. Note that user profiles and web cache are stored in separate folders, thus why you may see more than one directory path for each profile. In the row labeled 'Root Directory' under your 'privacy' profile, click the 'Open Directory' button and then kill Firefox.

Profile Tip

If you don't want Firefox whining about which profile to load every time it starts, you can select your preferred profile and check the 'Don't ask at startup' option, but don't do that yet! Another way is to create a shortcut to load any profile you want.

For more about profiles, see Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles and Multiple Firefox profiles.

For more about ticklish penguins, go here.

In your file manager you may notice that the folder containing your 'privacy' profile actually has a longer name with a bunch of gobbledygook preceding 'profile'. Ignore that like you ignore your goofy neighbor with the tinfoil wallpaper.

Now we need to run that updater script. How to do that depends on whether...

...you're running Linux

You will need to make those .sh files executable. You could try meditation or sacrificing a small mammal, but it'd probably be quicker to just right-click on each of them to open the file properties dialog window and click the 'Is executable' checkbox on the 'Permissions' tab (or similar). If your file browser doesn't have such an option, open a terminal in your privacy profile directory and run chmod +x *.sh, or, failing that, see How do I run .sh files?.

We need to run that updater.sh script from a terminal, so open one and change the directory to your privacy profile directory where the updater.sh file is. In the example below you'll need to change 'gobbledygook' to match the correct name of your profile folder:

cd ~/.mozilla/firefox/gobbledygook.privacy/

Now run the updater.sh script by preceding the file name with a dot and a slash:

./updater.sh

...or Windoze

To run that updater.bat script, navigate to your Firefox profile directory, hold down the Shift key and right-click in an empty space where the file is, then select "Open Command Window Here". Enter updater.bat and hit Enter. If you have trouble, see How to Run a BAT File on Windows: 13 Steps (with Pictures).

The updater script will spit out some introductory stuff and then prompt you to continue. If by chance everything in the universe is aligned just so, and you've followed all the directions you didn't read, the script will download a fresh copy of the 'arkenfox' user.js file to your Firefox 'privacy' profile directory and then append the contents of your user-overrides.js to it just like it says on the tin.

Pestering the Fox

The 'arkenfox' user.js is updated frequently so you'll need to check for updates regularly. One simple way to to do that is by running the 'arkenfox' updater script.

If you're using a Linux-based OS you can use my user.js-notify.sh script to be automatically notified via a desktop notification. You can add the script to your startup programs so it runs each time you log-on to your desktop (make sure it's executable). Instructions for implementing the script are contained within the script.

If you're not doing automatic update checks then you should run the 'arkenfox' updater script every week or so as well as check my Codeberg repo for a new version of my user-overrides.js if you're using it, but don't get ahead of yourself. You always want the user.js version that corresponds to your major version of Firefox, so if the updater script says Available online: * version 80 and you're running Firefox version 79, you'll want to cancel the update because 80 doesn't equal 79 (unless you're "woke" in which case all bets are off).

Each time you run the updater script, and with Firefox closed, be sure to follow it up by running the prefsCleaner script using the same method you used to run the updater script. The prefsCleaner script will nuke any depreciated/removed/inactive preferences and it's important that you do this.

updater script Pro Tip

If you use Linux you can run the updater script with the -c switch (./updater.sh -c) which will create a 'diff' file that will list all the differences between the old and the new user.js.

To see all the options for running the updater script for both Linux and Windows, see the Updater Scripts article on the 'arkenfox' wiki.

Fattening the Fox

Next we're going to the Firefox Add-ons website to install uBlock Origin (uBO) by Raymond Hill. We want uBlock Origin specifically and not any derivatives, copies, forks, fakes or imposters.

Why does he say 'WE' and 'WE'RE' when 'I' am the one doing all the f'n work?!

Plausible deniability. If i screw something up that causes your computer to explode, it's your fault. LOL

Regarding add-ons, more = more bad, generally speaking. It's pretty important, and especially so if you're new to the game, to NOT install add-ons willy-nilly. The more you install, the more likely things will break and that your privacy will be compromised, so don't go overboard with add-ons.

Firefox has fairly comprehensive built-in mechanisms to thwart browser fingerprinting and tracking and safeguard your privacy (these are activated in part by the 'arkenfox' user.js). While they alone are not quite enough for us privacy geeks, which is why you fell into this pit of despair, they do cover a lot of important ground. If you install additional "privacy" related add-ons that you *think* will enhance privacy, you could very easily wind up doing the opposite.

Now it's on to uBlock...

I know, this is supposed to be the 'for dummies' guide and all, but you really must learn how to use uBlock Origin (uBO). The good news is that it too has a 'dummy' mode and it's enabled by default! To begin, configure uBO according to my uBlock Origin Suggested Settings guide using the 'dummy guide' settings.

Of particular importance, DO NOT select the 'I am an advanced user' option! Don't look at it. Don't think about it. Don't think about looking at it ... at least not until you read all that 'required reading' stuff and understand fully what uBO is, does, how to use it, and how easy it is to break the entire interwebs if you screw up.

Now it's really important that you read this and this and this, but only up to the 'Medium mode' part for the last one. Once you complete that you'll be a Semi-Certified uBlock Origin Web Filter Engineer Apprentice.

Break time...

Training the Foxineer

With all that done and Firefox running, close all tabs and click the Hamburger button again to open the Preferences window, then click the Privacy & Security menu item (or load about:preferences#privacy in the address bar). Scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data section and click the Manage Data button. In the Manage Cookies and Site Data window that opens, click Remove All. This will remove (almost) all of the gunk that Firefox has accumulated thus far. We may as well start clean, plus now you know one way to scrap much of Firefox's storage.

If you've used the Fox before there's going to be some changes, one of them being that you'll be searching from the search bar (or a web page that isn't Google hopefully) instead of the address bar. The reason for this is a little creepy, suffice to say it's a privacy/security thing. Live search suggestions will be disabled because it's also creepy.

Now for some really important stuff...

Remember last week when you started reading this and i said we'd be "breaking as few websites as possible"? Kek! Since we disabled JavaScript globally with the uBO settings i suggested, every other website you visit is gonna be busted, and for good reason too!

There's a few things you need to know about JavaScript: 1), it's awesome-ish, 2) it's a privacy and security nightmare, 3) almost every website on Planet Earth uses it unnecessarily (even this one, but i'm working on that).

JavaScript (JS) can be used to do all sorts of cool and creepy things like make web pages interactive, make dull things look un-dull, animate stuff, etc.. It's used a lot by morons (the modern web developer) for making navigation menus work and displaying images and interactive content, as well as for annoying the crap out of you with ads and pop-ups and other such garbage. It's almost always necessary to enable JS when shopping. Of primary importance here is the fact that JS is leveraged heavily for distributing malware, tracking your journey across the web-o-sphere, profiling you, learning about your bathroom habits and much, much more (and believe me when i tell you that i'm exaggerating far less than you might think). The 'arkenfox' user.js and uBO provide powerful countermeasures to address such threats, but they don't compensate for stupidity.

Here's an excerpt from PrivacyTests.org if you care to read it...

Why web browsers are critical to online privacy

Once private data has leaked from your computer, phone or tablet, there is not much you can do to control it. But how does data leave your device in the first place?

Your web browser is a likely route: browsers commonly leak data to third parties, revealing what web pages you have visited. This information lets tracking companies know what you read, what you write, where you are located, what you search for, and what you buy. And this highly personal information is assembled by those companies into detailed individual profiles of every person on the internet, containing data on your ethnicity, religious views, political views, sexual orientation, gender, family, friends, colleagues, health history, habits, relationships, educational records, income, and so on. These companies often retain your data for years or decades, and sometimes share it with third parties, including other companies or governments.

If you want to beat yourself up even more, read Stop pushing JavaScript! by a guy who knows what he's talkin' 'bout and/or watch this video:

Disable JavaScript Tutorial Online Security | The Hated One

Now do you see why we disabled JS globally for the entire interwebs??? Thing is, it's very easy to enable again For Those Specific Websites Where You Really Need It To Be Enabled. "Need", i said. Not "like" or "want", but "need".

Start Firefox and load up your privacy profile, then middle-click this link to open it in a new tab and click some of the colors on the color swatch and…… well that was boring, but WAIT! THERE'S MORE! Now click the uBlock Origin button on your toolbar and in the lower right corner there’s an icon that looks like a </>, except it has a red ‘X’ through it. That icon is secret code for [CENSORED]. Click it to remove the ‘X’ and you will have enabled JavaScript for that particular domain (w3schools.com) after which you’ll see a new button appear on the uBO dashboard right outta thin air that has circlely arrows on it. Clicking that (or pressing F5) will refresh the page at www.w3schools.com and this time your browser will allow JS to run for the entire w3schools.com domain. That color swatch page will now look very different and this time when you click the colors, awesome things will appear that will surely dazzle you for hours on end like that damned triangle puzzle-peg thingy in every Cracker Barrel.

The point of that nail-biting exercise was to demonstrate the power of JavaScript by showing you how different it can make a website look and function, as well as how necessary it is in some, but not all cases. For example, if you're reading this intensely interesting novel with your Firefox privacy profile loaded and JS disabled for 12bytes.org, it wouldn't make much difference because the place looks and works pretty much the same, thus you should never enable it where it isn't needed, kapish?

Now you're going to take the JavaScript Oath. DON'T LAUGH! This is important shit!

OK, now repeat after me...

EYE SHALL NOT ENABLE JAVASCRIPT FOR ANY WEBSITE UNLESS A) THE WEB DEVELOPER IS AN ETHICAL BLOOD RELATIVE WHOM I TRUST WITH MY DAUGHTERS VIRGINITY AND B) IT MUST BE ENABLED IN ORDER TO PROVIDE REQUIRED FUNCTIONALITY THAT WOULD OTHERWISE NOT BE AVAILABLE (AND NO, LOOKING AT BOOBS DON'T COUNT).

The "HELP! I accidentally allowed JavaScript for xyz.com!!! Am I doomed???" Pro Tip

Several victims of this guide have asked whether they should reinstall Firefox after they've messed something up, such as unintentionally allowing JavaScript for a crappy website. The answer is no. Reinstalling Firefox is unnecessary and doing so will not touch your profiles where most of the data accumulated during web browsing resides. As long as you haven't been infected with some malware there's little to worry about. The default settings provided by the 'arkenfox' user.js enables settings that keep the data for every website you visit separate from every other website, plus dump all this data when the browser is closed. Also you can always dump the browser cache any time you want. If you're still shaking uncontrollably you could create a new privacy profile, import the stuff you need, and nuke the old one, but this is pretty extreme.

Importing stuff from an old profile

If you're not a first-time Firefox user and you have important bookmarks or other junk you want to import to your new privacy profile, make a backup copy of your profile and then go ahead and read this.

What to do when the Fox bites

It's inevitable that you're going to have trouble with some websites. Keep calm. Breeeeath! You've already gotten a taste of how a website can be rendered useless with JavaScript disabled and although i let you enable it for the site given in the example earlier, i only did so because it's a trustworthy place. The next website you visit may not be. You're here aren't you?

To make a broken website un-broken you'll need to use uBlock Origin to enable the functionality you need for those websites you trust. If you cannot get a website to cooperate by making site specific changes with uBlock, you can always spin-up a fresh, empty profile to load the site and delete it afterwards, but understand that you will be at the mercy of a completely default Firefox configuration. For websites you don't trust, why are you visiting them? Porn? Warez? Facebook? Instagram? Google? If you value your privacy and digital integrity at all, forget that stuff. Seriously.

Another 'gotchya' that will likely creep up at some point is a website not saving settings that you wanted to save, such as your log-on credentials or search engine settings. To save such data you'll need to edit the permissions for the domain and there's two easy ways to access them; you can click the padlock icon in the address bar, then the right-facing arrow, then "More information", or simply hit Ctrl + I (that's an eye, not an el). In the window that opens, click the "Permissions" icon and scroll down until you see the "Set Cookies" item. Finally, deselect the "Use Default" preference and select "Allow" if you want to save the the data for that domain across restarts, or "Allow for Session" if you want to dump the data after you close the browser.

I would not suggest permanently allowing cookies for any mainstream, privacy-hating Big Tech website such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, eBay, etc..

The Fox hole

Even with everything we've accomplished you're still vulnerable to being tracked and profiled, however you're in a much better position then when we started out... except for one little problem; your Internet Service Provider!

At the very least your ISP can see what websites you visit, how long and how often you're visiting, and when you're on-line and when you're not. They may even inject ads, malware or other garbage in your data stream. The solution: Hijack your neighbors unprotected WiFi and... Kidding! Listen, you and i have gotten to know each other throughout this long and difficult ordeal. We're kinda like buddies now. Kinda. And i can already tell you're ethics are of a higher caliber than mine that!

One solution to the problem is a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Ever wanted to be in 30 places at once?

A VPN works by routing all of your internet traffic through an encrypted tunnel between you and another computer run by the VPN service provider which we'll call an 'exit node'. That exit node could be anywhere in the world. From the exit node your traffic flows as normal to whatever website you want to visit and the website then sends the kitty video you clicked on back to the exit node thinking IT is YOU, but alas, IT AIN'T YOU! The kitty video then secretly makes its way back to you through this secret tunnel which was secretly established between you and the exit node. So far as the website is concerned, it doesn't know where the hell you really are and so far as your ISP is concerned, all it sees is gobbledygook that looks like Braille to an ameba. Ever annoyed by that galactically stupid "Sorry, this video is not available in your country" crap? Pfff. Any remotely decent VPN provider will maintain many exit nodes throughout the world and switching between them is usually as simple as a mouse click or two.

Now, listen up...

There are truck loads of VPN service providers and it seems the vast majority do not respect customer privacy. In particular i would strongly advise avoiding any VPN add-on on the Mozilla add-ons website. Lastly, NEVER trust a "free" VPN provider!

Currently i use AzireVPN which you can read about here and here and here. OVPN seems like it may be the better choice for those who are less technically inclined. Both companies own and secure their own hardware rather than leasing it and both services can be purchased anonymously using crypto. Mullvad is another and they seem to be very transparent about their services, but they do not own all of their servers.

WHAT THE FOX!

So now you're all smitten thinking you're invincible and ready to hack NASA to see if aliens really built secret underground bases on the back side of the moon (they did, sorta, i think). You're not, but you've taken one, small step for man, and.....

Truth is, there are far more vectors for attack than you and i (and many of the so-called "experts") will ever know about, so don't get all uppity. Perfect privacy on the web, as in real life, is a pipe dream and it wasn't the goal here anyway. We've covered several important bases that will help prevent nasty corporations and your ISP from spying on you, but not all of them. Remember that when you're creating fake profiles on Facebook to stalk your ex.

After you've taken plenty of time to get comfortable with your new Firefox configuration, i suggest reading everything in the uBlock Origin wiki and learning how to use it in its advanced mode.

Be safe. Be ethical. And if you need help (after you've tried to help yourself), leave a comment or check the FAQ: Firefox Hardening page.

IMPORTANT: If you incorporate suggestions made in this guide, please check back often for changes or, better yet, subscribe to my main RSS feed or the feed for the Tech or Firefox categories. If you need a news feed reader, see Firefox Extensions - My Picks.

The last word (i promise!)

One of the problems i think many people face when they become concerned about on-line privacy is overcoming the technical hurdles in order to achieve the desired result and this can lead to frustration and reverting back to their old ways. Digital privacy is hard, but it's a lot easier to achieve if you progress in small increments and Naomi Brockwell's videos are a fantastic resource in that regard. If you have a hard time swallowing this guide and getting used to a hardened Firefox, don't sweat it and don't give up. Make another default Firefox profile and use it whenever you feel like punching someone (me).
